Nobody asked for a Corey Taylor / Chad Kroeger feud, but here we are, and it’s been wildly entertaining.

Chad Kroeger, lead singer of the Internet’s least favorite band, Nickelback took an interview with Metal Covenant as an opportunity to brag about his own band, and bash Metal Covenant’s comparisons.

In a challenge to name another band as diverse as Nickelback, Metal Covenant suggested Corey Taylor fronted, Stone Sour, and Kroeger took the offensive.

“They’re okay,” Kroeger said, “but they’re not as good as Nickelback. They sound like Nickelback Lite.”

Aside from Nickelback Lite sounding like the name of a gas station beer brand that only comes in 40 oz glass bottles, that’s a harsh comparison to make.

Kroeger didn’t stop there, though. He took on another Taylor fronted band, Slipknot, saying, “how good can your music be if you’ve got to … put on masks and jump around … music shouldn’t come with a gimmick – music should just be music.”

Then of course, he proceeded to claim Taylor left Slipknot to start Stone Sour after he “got tired of sitting behind a mask,” which is largely untrue. Taylor started Stone Sour in 1993, then put it on hold after joining Slipknot in 1997 and releasing an almost equal number of albums with each band since.

Smash Mouth gave their two cents, because who better to give insight on a feud that feels like it should have ended a decade ago?

Consequence of Sound writer, Alex Young got a response from Mr. Mouth himself, saying, “We see what Chad is saying, but Slipknot has more than pulled it off. It feels authentic, they nailed it! They’re American Icons.”

Stone Sour and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor made a public response to Kroeger’s Metal Covenant Interview Wednesday morning on Arizona radio station KUPD.

When asked about the feud, Taylor was clear to point out that his problem is not with Nickelback, but with Kroeger, because, “nobody else in the band seems to have a problem with [Taylor’s bands.]”

Ultimately, Taylor took the high road.

After reading through the comments from people coming to his defense online, Taylor said, “I don’t have to say a damn thing. [Kroeger] is not a liked person.”

To top it all off, Taylor said Kroeger’s face looks like a foot, and made his own comparison

“You can run your mouth all you want. All I know is I’ve been voted ‘Sexiest Dude In Rock’ wearing a mask,” Taylor boasted. “You’ve been voted ‘Ugliest Dude In Rock’ twice without one. Stick that up your ass.”
